For mountaineers, the Priener Hütte is an important base on larger tours through the Chiemgau Alps and on the Königssee-Bodensee long-distance hiking trail, the Maximiliansweg .

history

In 1913 the first plans of the Prien Alpine Club section came up to build an accommodation hut on the Geigelstein. It was not until 1924, after a long search for a suitable location and the raising of the necessary financial resources, that construction could begin. Only with the support of the main association could the Priener Hütte finally be opened on August 10, 1930. The steadily increasing number of visitors resulted in several break-ins and thefts, and in 1938 it was decided to operate the hut all year round. The hut remained a small, cozy mountaineering accommodation until 1960, when it was rebuilt according to the spirit of the times. The work was extensive and changed the face of the hut so much that it was inaugurated again on June 27, 1964. After a further expansion in 1974, the stately shelter offers more comfort and now offers over 100 beds as well as a modern large kitchen and showers.
