Prince Mahidol Prize
The Prince Mahidol Prize ( Thai พระราชทาน รางวัล สมเด็จ เจ้าฟ้า มหิดล , English Prince Mahidol Award ) is an award given annually by the Thai royal family for outstanding achievements in medicine and public health worldwide.
The prize is awarded annually to international personalities and institutions in two categories:
- for excellent advances in medicine
- for the active promotion of the public health system.
Prince Mahidol Prize Foundation
King Rama IX Bhumibol Adulyadej founded the Prince Mahidol Prize Foundation on January 1, 1992 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birthday of his father, Prince Mahidol , initially under the name "Mahidol Prize Foundation", since July 28, 1997 as " Prince Mahidol Prize Foundation ”. In addition to the actual awarding of the prize, the fund also promotes the memory of Prince Mahidol, who was one of the first members of the royal family to make the country's public health system his task.
Currently (as of 2016) Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn is the chairwoman of the foundation committee.
