Puchberg is a district, a census district and a cadastral municipality of the Upper Austrian city of Wels with 2286 inhabitants. Puchberg was a separate community until it was incorporated into Wels in 1939. The district in its current boundaries no longer corresponds to the independent community before 1939, as some parts of the Pernau cadastral community are now counted as part of the district.

Districts and settlements

Puchberg is divided into the districts: Aichberg, Kirchham, Mitterlaab, Niederthan, Nöham, Oberhart, Oberlaab, Puchberg, Roithen, Stadlhof and Unterleithen.

The district borders in the north on the municipality of Krenglbach , in the north and northeast on Buchkirchen , in the east on the municipality Marchtrenk , in the southeast on the district Pernau , in the south on the district Neustadt and in the north west on the district Vogelweide . Puchberg is the only district in Wels that does not border the inner city .

history

Puchberg Castle after a copper engraving by Georg Matthäus Vischer from 1674

For a long time Puchberg was mainly characterized by agriculture, from 1595 the Protestant politician Christoph Puechner built Puchberg Castle in the Renaissance style. From 1641 the castle came into the possession of the Seeauers, who expanded it into a mansion. At the end of the 19th century, several important institutions were created in Puchberg, the school was opened in 1897, and the Puchberg Volunteer Fire Brigade was founded in 1888 .

During the Nazi era , Puchberg was incorporated into the city of Wels in 1939 . During the Second World War , Puchberg was hit by several bombs, the castle and the areas at the marshalling yard suffered more severe damage . In 1952 the Diocese of Linz bought Puchberg Castle , renovated it and set up an education center with several seminar rooms.

Economy and Infrastructure

The ÖBB Terminal in the south-east of the district is of particular economic importance ; its volume makes it one of the best in Europe. The rolling road has its starting and ending point here. Several pairs of trains depart daily from the terminal in Puchberg to Germany , Slovenia and Hungary . Some logistics and manufacturing companies are located in the industrial area next to it. The district also has a fire station for the Wels volunteer fire department.

The district is of supraregional importance primarily due to the educational center Schloss Puchberg , where numerous seminars take place.

The district is connected via line 1 of the Welser Linien with the new town and subsequently with the city center and from there with the remaining districts and census districts. Until 1996 the Passau Railway had its own Wels-Puchberg station, but this was shut down due to poor transport connections. The district is connected to the A25 via the Wels-Nord and Terminal motorway exits , and the Welser Osttangente and the B138 run through Wels-Puchberg.

Culture and leisure

The Welser Reiterbund is located in the north of the district, a therapy center and a riding school are housed here. In addition, Puchberg is a natural recreation area, and there is a wildlife corridor near the Roithen district. Puchberg was of about 1999 to 2008 its summer outdoor festival plow , only to 2012 followed on the same field flash in the pan after.
