Purity Cherotich Kirui (born August 13, 1991 in Kericho ) is a Kenyan obstacle runner .

Athletic career

Purity Cherotich Kirui gained her first international experience at the Junior African Championships 2009 in Bambous , where she finished fourth in 10: 12.35 minutes. The following year she won the Junior World Championships in Moncton , Canada in 9: 36.34 minutes , as well as the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow four years later in 9: 30.96 minutes. Then she was sixth at the African Championships in Marrakech in 9: 50.87 min. The following year she won the bronze medal behind the two Ethiopians at the Africa Games in Brazzaville in 9: 52.54 minutesSofia Assefa and Hiwot Ayalew . In 2017 she qualified for the first time for the World Championships in London , where she finished tenth in the final with 9: 25.62 minutes . In 2018 she again took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast and won the bronze medal there in 9: 25.74 minutes behind the Jamaican Aisha Praught-Leer and her compatriot Celliphine Chepteek Chespol .

In 2014 Kirui became the Kenyan obstacle course champion. She is married to the Kenyan long distance runner Paul Kipchumba Lonyangata .
