Rábaszentandrás (formerly Szentandrás or Szent András ) is a Hungarian municipality in the Csorna district in Győr-Moson-Sopron County .

Geographical location

Rábaszentandrás is located 18 kilometers southeast of the city of Csorna , on the Sebes-Sobori-csatorna canal and borders directly on the large community of Szany . Other neighboring communities are Sobor , Várkesző and Marcaltó .

history

The first written mention of the place in the form of Zenthandras comes from the year 1469, during the reign of King Matthias Corvinus . During the Reformation, the residents of Szentandrás converted to the Lutheran faith, as a result of which their priest, the preacher Miklós Borhidai, was later sentenced to galley penalty. In the period after the Hungarian uprising , a producers' cooperative was founded in the village, which later merged with the cooperative of the neighboring municipality of Sobor. At that time the administration was with the Szany Council. After the regime change in 1989, the place became independent again, its producers' cooperative dissolved and since then individual farmers have been cultivating the municipality's land. Some of the residents now work in Szany, Csorna, Pápa and Győr .
