geography
course
The Rückersbach rises near the eponymous district of Johannesberg and flows through the Rückersbach Gorge . It runs from Rückersbach to the Schluchthof near Kleinostheim and is widely known for its steep walls and rocks. Several small stone bridges lead over the Rückersbach in the gorge . At the Schluchthof the Rückersbach reaches a shallow depression, is artificially diverted to the south and then bends again in a westerly direction. The stream bed runs today in the ditch of the road to Waldstadt . After about 500 m the Rückersbach flows into the Haggraben .
In the past, the Rückersbach am Schluchthof was diverted not only to the south, but also to the north. This part of the arm then flowed into the Haggraben a little south of the Hausackerhof . The Rückersbach was at times a tributary of the Main , which once flowed in this Urmaintal .

The phonolite
There is an inconspicuous quarry in a side valley of the Rückersbach Gorge . This was in operation around 1900 and has since been conquered by the forest. There is a strange rock called phonolite there . It is of molten origin like a basalt , but with a completely different mineralogical and chemical composition.
The phonolite quarry of the Rückersbach Gorge has been designated as a valuable geotope by the Bavarian State Office for the Environment (geotope number: 671A001). See also the list of geotopes in the Aschaffenburg district .
