history

Holger Blum 2013

In 2002, the Kaisersaal of the Radeberger Gaststätte Kaiserhof was first used as a venue for the newly founded Radeberger Beer Theater. Initially, Peter Flache was mainly responsible for staging the plays. From the beginning, Flache was also on stage as the main actor named Backe , his wife Renate was played by Angela Zschaler. In the first season Böttcher & Fischer were also members of the ensemble. Flache installed the beer taps at the theater to create a musical and humorous contribution in the post-program to the performances of the Radeberg Beer Theater. With the performance of the piece Bier frei in 2004, the beer taps were also involved as the main actors in the beer theater performances, replacing Böttcher & Fischer and miming the couple Harry and Gisela Kleinschmidt in the Backental saga. In the first few years, almost exclusively in-house productions were performed. As the theater grew in popularity, the guest performances were also better received. In the meantime, local Saxon stars such as Tom Pauls , Katrin Weber or tenderness with friends as well as non-Saxon artists (including Ingo Appelt , Mike Krüger , Mirja Boes , Wladimir Kaminer , Fips Asmussen ) appear in the theater.

While the beer taps later left their homes for frequent tours, the beer theater's own productions are only performed in the Kaisersaal. From the regular events of the beer theater, which deal with the life of the fictional Backental family in the equally imagined town of Malzau, DVD recordings were made from the first editions of the family saga up to 2010.

The theater season traditionally starts at the end of September and ends at the end of June. There are now around 150 events per season, which attract more than 30,000 spectators each year. During the regular events, catering is possible at the rows of tables, which are usually at right angles to the stage, from which the name beer theater is derived. This service is waived for some guest performances. Various guest performances have also been carried out in row seating since 2012.

At the beginning of the 2016/2017 season, Peter Flache withdrew from both his main role as a cheek and from producing the pieces. From then on, Holger Blum was the main source of ideas for the in-house productions.
