Fips Asmussen , actually Rainer Pries , (born April 30, 1938 in Hamburg ; † August 9, 2020 in Querfurt ) was a German comedian and solo entertainer .

Life

Only a few biographical details are publicly documented. After the record cover of the 1969 LP Lektion für Sexmuffel , Asmussen's father was a bank clerk in Lübeck and insisted that his son complete an apprenticeship as a typesetter . After passing his apprenticeship exam , he switched to the advertising industry (on Asmussen's website it is noted that he “studied with a diploma at the Advertising Academy in Hamburg”). Through his work in this area he came into contact with artists, completed a two-year vocal training course and learned to play the guitar .

At the end of the 1960s he opened the cabaret pub Violette Onion at Ifflandstrasse 90 in Hamburg-Hohenfelde , where he worked both as a landlord and as an interpreter. At that time his repertoire included cabaret songs, chansons and poems by, for example, Kurt Tucholsky , Erich Kästner or Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht . Asmussen ran the violet onion for a few years before he gave up the business because of the associated stress: “For four years I played solo entertainer every night until five in the morning. You give up that at some point, then the binge comes along, that's logical. ”After this early phase, which was characterized by demanding cabaret singing, he switched from 1973 to telling jokes in quick succession, which has become his characteristic.

He worked as a comedian for more than forty years and toured his humorous stage programs both in Germany and abroad . He also appeared on radio and television programs. In addition, his appearances have also been released on sound carriers since the early 1970s , such as the LPs Lektion für Sexmuffel (1969, with Beate Hasenau ) and Live in Violet - One Night in the "Violette Onion" (1970). Since the 1973 jokes churned out , he appeared under the stage name Fips Asmussen . The debut album Jokes Churning was also his most commercially successful release. It received a platinum record in Germany for 500,000 copies sold , making the work one of the best-selling comedy recordings in Germany . His first wife, with whom he had a daughter, died of cancer in 1997. In the meantime, the native of Hamburg settled in Wolfenbüttel and in Niendorf an der Stecknitz . After reunification , Asmussen moved to his wife Barbara in Querfurt in the late 1990s .

He died of cancer on August 9, 2020 at the age of 82.

humor

In his shows Asmussen told jokes and punch lines that are often tied into a narrative, e.g. B. about his everyday life. Often he used clichés and resentments , e.g. B. about women , gays and foreigners .

music

Asmussen tried himself from the 1970s as a mood singer with songs like Ein Korn im Feldbett (a cover version of Ein Bett im Kornfeld ), which reached number 35 in the German single charts in 1976. His version of Mike Krügers Mein Gott, Walther! also appeared as a single. Asmussen had sold seven million records, cassettes and CDs by 2020 (for recordings of gentlemen's evenings, some under the pseudonym Karl Ludwig). He received three gold records for his publications, all of which were published by Europa , Jokes Churning Band (1978), Jokes Churning Volume II (1979), A Cap Full of Jokes (1982) and finally platinum for Churning Jokes (1978).

advertising

From 2006, Asmussen advertised the Funny paperback ( Ehapa Verlag ) on television . Here he was telling bad jokes in order to suggest a better quality of the jokes in the funny paperback .

Others

Fips Asmussen was one of the favorite victims of Oliver Kalkofe , who in his show Kalkofes Mattscheibe regularly made fun of Asmussen's appearance as well as the primitive humor of Asmussen from Kalkofe's point of view and called him “Fips ass muscle” or “fart anuss”. Asmussen returned the favor by telling jokes about Kalkofe for a while during his live performances.

Asmussen accused the entertainer and comedian Dieter Hallervorden several times of having taken on various gags without his consent, including the well-known sketch bottle of French fries (" Palim-Palim "), which Hallervorden had bought from the entertainer Heinz Quermann through Gerhard Wollner for his program . This controversy was the end of January 2009 by Harald Schmidt and Oliver Pocher in the show Schmidt & Pocher satirizes .
