action

Tara Adams is a very shy 17 year old student at Lincoln Bay High School in Seattle . She is very afraid to speak in front of others, when she is brought to the blackboard at school, she hardly gets a word out. But in the seclusion of her bedroom she becomes the DJ of her own podcast called "Radio Rebel". In it she encourages her listeners to be courageous and to realize themselves. Over time, her podcast became very popular among her classmates, who, however, did not know the identity of Radio Rebel. Tara's stepfather Rob runs SLAM FM , Seattle's largest radio station. After hearing a podcast from Radio Rebel and finding out that it was Tara, he decided, on the advice of DJ Cami Q, to broadcast Radio Rebel on the radio from now on. The show was a great success, even going so far that Radio Rebel was nominated for the election of the Prom Queen. Her identity remains a secret, Tara's best friend Audrey is the only one at the school who knows about it. As Radio Rebel, Tara organizes a dance party during the lunch break at her school. School principal Moreno wants to ban this, but cannot because DJ Cami Q parks her van outside the school grounds. In a rage, the director announces that the prom has been canceled until Radio Rebel reveals itself. This decision ensures that many angrily call the show and say that Radio Rebel has destroyed their dreams.

But then suddenly Tara has an idea. With the help of the radio station, she organizes her own prom called Morp (Prom backwards), where everyone is invited to come, much to the displeasure of Director Moreno, who now wants to kick Radio Rebel from school as soon as she knows her true identity. The most popular girl at the school, Stacy, is dying to become a prom queen. After finding out that Tara is Radio Rebel, she pressures Tara to ask her listeners to vote for Stacy as prom queen. At the ball, Radio Rebel is named Prom Queen, whereupon Tara reveals her identity. Thereupon the principal makes her plans come true and announces that Tara is thrown from the school. To protect her best friend, Audrey shouts “I'm Radio Rebel,” which the other students join in. Tara gives her prom queen crown to Stacy on the grounds that she will always be herself and that is how she deserves this crown. Impressed by this, Stacy shouts “I'm Radio Rebel” . Finally Moreno gives up and Tara can stay at the school. The film ends with Tara being asked to dance by her crush, Gavin.
