Radziejów [ raˈʥɛjuf ] ( German 1943–1945 Rädichau ) is a town in the Polish Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship and is located about 35 km west of Włocławek . Radziejów is the seat of the Powiat Radziejowski and has about 5600 inhabitants.
history
The oldest written mention as Radeow is found in a document from 1142, in which the transfer of the place to the Mogilno Monastery was confirmed. In 1252 Radziejów was raised to the rank of town, which was also confirmed in 1298. In 1702 the royal castle that had existed here until then was blown up by the Swedes . After the Third Partition of Poland , Radziejów came to Prussia , but was incorporated into the Duchy of Warsaw during the Napoleonic period in 1807 . By the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the city was attached to the newly established Congress Poland , which was itself connected in a personal union with Russia . A great fire destroyed large parts of the city in 1831. In 1867 the city's status was also lost. It was not until 1919 that the city was again raised. In 1956 the Radziejów District was founded. The district was dissolved in 1975, but re-established in the administrative reform of Poland in 1999.
