Rafał Ziemkiewicz Aleksander (* 13. September 1964 in Piaseczno ) is a Polish journalist and author of science fiction - and fantasy - novels .

Life

Ziemkiewicz studied Polish Studies at the University of Warsaw .

After graduation, he worked as a journalist and columnist , including for the magazine Najwyższy Czas , the fourth channel of Polish radio and the newspaper Gazeta Polska , where he headed the journalism department until 1997. He has been an independent publicist for some time , although he sympathizes with the libertarian politician Janusz Korwin-Mikke , was press spokesman for the liberal-conservative party Unia Polityki Realnej between 1993 and 1994 and worked as a scholarship holder for the Republican Party in Seattle in 1995 . He publishes in the Polish edition of Newsweek magazine and the daily Rzeczpospolita .

As a science fiction author he made his debut with the story Z palcem na spuście in the weekly Odgłosy in July 1982. Ziemkiewicz is the winner of the Janusz A. Zajdel Prize for the novels Pieprzony los kataryniarza (1995) and Walc stulecia (1998) as well for the story Śpiąca królewna (1996).

Allegations of anti-Semitism

In 2018, Rafał Ziemkiewicz canceled a lecture tour in England after members of parliament asked the government to ban him because of his "homophobic and anti-Semitic views". Based on Ziemkiewic's most recent publication, the "Association of the Open Republic against Anti-Semitism and Homophobia" ( Otwarta Rzeczpospolita, Stowarzyszenie przeciw Antysemityzmowi i Ksenofobii ) brought a lawsuit before the Warsaw Public Prosecutor. Ziemkiewicz described Jews as "nefarious", the Holocaust as "myth" and young Israelis as "killing machines".
