Rainer Fabich

Rainer Fabich (born November 14, 1958 in Steingaden ) is a German composer , film composer , musician and lecturer .

Life

Fabich studied instrumental music (major: clarinet, artistic diploma) at the Munich University of Music and Theater and musicology and communication studies (master's degree, doctorate) with a focus on film music at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . His book Music for the Silent Film - Analyzing Description of Original Film Compositions is now considered a standard work on European film music from the silent film era in the years 1895–1928.

From 1998 to 2008 he was a lecturer for film music at the University of Television and Film Munich (Documentary Film Department). As a guest, u. a. at international symposia (Vienna, Salzburg, Cologne and Paris), the universities of Berlin, Rostock and Trento / Italy, the University of Music, Munich and the international film festivals in Munich, Berlin and Cannes / France. Fabich is and was a board member of the DKV ( German Composers Association , since 2007), of FFACE (Federation of Audiovisual Composers of Europe, from 2007–2015) and of ECSA (European Composers Alliance) of the CC ( Composers Club , from 2000–2010) and the German Academy for Television (2010–2014). He is also a member of the German Film Academy , the evaluation committee of the GEMA Supervisory Board, the Economic Committee of the German Music Council, and a founding member of FFACE, the German Film Composers Union (DEFKOM), the German Academy for Television and the First Bavarian Film Phoniker.

Works

Fabich writes instrumental works (orchestral and chamber music), lieder, songs and film music. His catalog raisonné includes over 500 compositions. In addition to 15 CD releases, radio and TV commissioned compositions, he composed the music for more than 60 feature, television, documentary and experimental films. He created the music for multimedia sound installations and for international events (e.g. Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf, opening “El Castillo del Mar ” / La Gomera , Spain). He is also known as a musician (clarinet and saxophone), music teacher and through his work on the theory and history of film music.
