The Podolski rajon ( Russian Подольский район ) was a Rajon in Moscow Oblast in Russia , south of the capital Moscow . It existed from 1929 to 2015. The administrative center of the Raion was the city of Podolsk , which itself did not belong to the Raion.
geography
The Podolski rajon last bordered in the northeast on the Leninski rajon , in the east on the Domodedowski rajon and in the south on the Chekhovsky rajon of Moscow Oblast, in the west and north on the territory of the city of Moscow. The Rajon enclosed the territories of the independent urban districts Podolsk and Klimowsk .
The Rajon was divided into an urban parish (with the urban-type settlement Lwowski ) and three rural parishes with a total of 75 villages.
The largest river in the area is the Pachra .
history
At the end of the 18th century, the first administrative unit named Podolsk was established according to a decree of Catherine II . The Rajon, which existed until 2012 (with minor adjustments), was created in 1929. In 2012, around three quarters of the former area of the raion including the cities of Shcherbinka and Troitsk were given to the city of Moscow. Through several laws and ordinances of the governor of Moscow Oblast, the Podolski rajon and the Klimovsk district were dissolved in May to July 2015 and connected to the Podolsk district, which now occupies the area of the three former administrative units. At the same time, the places Klimowsk and Lwowski were incorporated into Podolsk.

economy
The economy of the Rajon was shaped by businesses founded in 1932 in the fields of non-ferrous metals and metal powders as well as food combines . The main areas of metal production were lead and zinc products as well as aluminum . In the food sector, the most important branches were dairy farming , potato cultivation and beef production .
traffic
The Moscow - Kursk - Kharkiv railway and the M2 federal trunk road ran through the Rajon .
