Career

Club career

Ramón Heredia, born in 1951 in Argentina's second largest city, Córdoba , began playing football in Buenos Aires at the CA San Lorenzo de Almagro club , where he made it into the first team in 1969. For San Lorenzo, Heredia played in 119 league games until 1973, in which the defender or defensive midfielder scored nineteen goals. He was part of the San Lorenzo team around players such as Roberto Telch , Rubén Ayala and Rodolfo Fischer , who in 1972 won two Argentinian football championships. Both the Torneo Metropolitano and the Torneo Nacional were able to prevail.

In the summer of 1973 Ramón Heredia left CA San Lorenzo de Almagro after four very successful years and ventured to Europe . He signed a contract with the Spanish first division club Atlético Madrid . Atlético had just become Spanish champions last season under Austrian coach Max Merkel and reached Ramón Heredias in the first year at the Estadio Vicente Calderón under the new Argentine coach Juan Carlos Lorenzo and with players such as goalkeeper Miguel Reina , defender Adelardo Rodríguez or Attacker José Eulogio Gárate the final in the European Cup . After Galatasaray Istanbul from Turkey , Dinamo Bucharest from Romania , Red Star Belgrade from Yugoslavia and Celtic Glasgow from Scotland were defeated one after the other , they finally failed in the final at the German representative FC Bayern Munich 4-0 in the replay after the actual final had ended 1: 1 after extra time. Since FC Bayern decided not to take part in the World Cup , Atlético had the opportunity to play for the World Cup as the loser in the final. Here you met the winner of the Copa Libertadores 1974 , Independiente Avellaneda . With 0: 1 in Argentina and 2: 0 in Madrid, Luis Aragonés' team prevailed through us and the crown of the World Cup winners.

Ramón Heredia was also very successful in the following years at Atlético Madrid. First succeeded in the 1975/76 season with a 1-0 final win against Real Saragossa, the win in the Spanish cup competition, the Copa del Rey . A year later they were also extremely successful in the league and were in the Primera División 1976/77 at the end of all game days on the first place in the table with one point ahead of FC Barcelona . This time, however, in the subsequent European Cup, they had to admit defeat to the Belgian representative FC Bruges in the quarter-finals .

Ramón Heredia left Atlético Madrid in the summer of 1977 directly after the successful championship. He went to France to join the Paris Saint-Germain club, which had only been founded seven years earlier . In two years in Division 1 , each of which ended with placements in midfield, Heredia did not manage to claim a permanent place. In the summer of 1979 he ended his football career at the age of just 28 years. Later Ramón Heredia was still active as a coach at various clubs, including briefly in 1993 with his old club Atlético Madrid.

National team

Between 1971 and 1974 Ramón Heredia made a total of 30 appearances in the Argentine national football team . He got two goals. He was appointed to the South American squad for the 1974 World Cup in Germany by national coach Vladislao Cap . In the course of the tournament, the Atlético Madrid midfielder was an undisputed regular player and played every tournament game of his team over the entire season. But even he could not prevent the Argentine team, after just overcoming the preliminary round in the final round, as bottom of the table behind the Netherlands , Brazil and the GDR with just one draw and two defeats.
