Randall Bal (born November 14, 1980 in Fair Oaks , California ) is an American swimmer .

Career

Randall Bal won gold over 50 m back at the 2001 World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, in 25.34 seconds ahead of German Thomas Rupprath . He also won silver over 100 m at the 2005 World Championships in Montreal, Canada . At the 2006 World Short Course Championships in Shanghai he won two bronze and one silver medal.

At the FINA World Cup 2007 he won 21 out of 21 gold medals to be achieved, broke two cup records in Berlin and won the prize of $ 100,000 as the best male participant. At the US Olympic Games for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing , Bal was unable to assert himself against the strong competition on the 100 meter back course, although at the turn he was still swimming under Aaron Peirsol's world record time .

In autumn 2008, Bal set new world records over the 50-meter back distance on both the long and the short course .
