description

Bloom in detail

Vegetative characteristics

The Raue Kranzian is a biennial herbaceous plant and reaches heights of 5 to 30 centimeters. The stems are simple or branched.

The opposite leaves are arranged in basal rosettes and distributed on the stem. The basal leaves are ovate and the stem leaves are lanceolate.

Generative characteristics

The flowering period extends from May to September. The flowers are arranged in a panicley , sometimes truss- shaped inflorescence .

The hermaphroditic flowers are radial symmetry and five-fold with a double flower envelope . The five sepals are fused to less than half their length. The calyx tube is narrowly winged. There are pointed bays between the lanceolate calyx teeth. The calyx teeth are rough on the slightly outwardly rolled edge and on the midrib of 0.1 millimeter long papillae . The purple or lilac colored corollas have a conspicuous white-bearded throat.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 36.

Occurrence

The distribution area of the Rauen Gentians includes the Eastern Alps westwards to the Gotthard massif . In Austria the Raue Kranzian is common in the northern Limestone Alps and in the Hohe Tauern ; he is absent in Vienna and Burgenland .

It thrives at altitudes of 700 to 2500 meters. In the Allgäu Alps in Bavaria, it rises on the Rauhhorn to an altitude of 2200 meters. Locations are soils, rubble and grasslands, semi-arid and lime dry lawns . The Raue Kranzian occurs in Central Europe in the plant communities of the associations Mesobromion, Molinion or the order Seslerietalia.

Taxonomy

It was first described in 1839 under the name ( Basionym ) Gentiana aspera Hegetschw. & Heer by Johannes Jacob Hegetschweiler and Oswald Heer in Flora der Schweiz , page 210. The new combination to Gentianella aspera (Hegetschw. & Heer) Skalický, Chrtek & J.Gill was created in 1966 by Josef Dostál in Vladimír Skalický , Jindřich Chrtek and Jiri Gill : Preslia , Volume 38, Page 92.
