Ray Gallon

Ray Gallon (* around 1965 in New York City ) is an American modern jazz musician ( piano , keyboard ) .

Gallon worked in the New York jazz scene from the 1980s; first recordings were made in 1988, when he was in the big band of Lionel Hampton was keyboard player to listen to the album Cookin 'in the Kitchen , one Grammy awarded nomination. Since then he has played a. a. with Ron Carter , Art Farmer , TS Monk , Dizzy Gillespie , Milt Jackson , Sweets Edison , Wycliffe Gordon , Les Paul , Benny Golson , Frank Wess , Lew Tabackin , George Adams and in the Mingus Big Band . He has also accompanied vocalists such as Jon Hendricks , Sheila Jordan , Grady Tate , Nnenna Freelon , Gloria Lynne , Dakota Staton , Joe Williams , Chaka Khan and Jane Monheit . He also worked with his own trio (or in a duo with Peter Washington ) and appeared as a soloist. His compositions have been played by TS Monk, the Harper Brothers and George Adams.

Gallon has also appeared as a studio musician on The Tonight Show and Today , TV and radio programs on BET-TV and NPR . He also worked as a music teacher, u. a. at The New School ; He currently teaches on the BFA Jazz Program at the City College of New York. In the field of jazz he was involved in nine recording sessions between 1988 and 2016, most recently with the Jon De Lucia Octet. Currently (2019), 0 Gallon leads a quartet that includes Steve Nelson (vibraphone), David Wong (bass) and Jason Brown (drums).
