The Refuge du Viso ( Italian Rifugio Viso ) is a refuge of the Club Alpin Français in the French department of Hautes-Alpes in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region with a capacity of 65 places. It is located in the higher area of the valley of the Guil in the municipality of Ristolas in the Cottian Alps at an altitude of 2460 m.

history

Until a few years ago, the Refuge du Viso was called Refuge Ballif-Viso. It was named after Abel Ballif, President of the Touring Club de France at the time of its establishment. In 2002 the building was renovated.

location

The Refuge du Viso is located in the upper Guiltal , at the foot of the west face of Monte Viso ( Italian Monviso , French Mont Viso ).

On the multi-day hike Giro di Viso , which completely circles Monte Viso, the Refuge du Viso is reached as one of several accommodation huts.

Accesses

The usual approach is through the upper valley of the Guil , starting from the village of Ristolas at the back of the valley . In summer the road can be used up to the parking lot at La Roche Écroulée (1780 m). The subsequent walk to the Refuge du Viso takes about two and a half hours. In winter, the road from Echalp (1700 m) is closed, which means that the hut trail extends to three and a half hours.

Summit climbs
