Reinado Internacional del Café
Reinado Internacional del Café ("International Coffee Queen ") is an international beauty pageant in Colombia . In 1957 it was held for the first time as a continental competition under the name Reinado Continental del Café ("Coffee Queen of the Continent"). Back then the venue was Manizales , where it still takes place today. In 1972 a rule change was decided that also allowed the participation of competitors from other countries, which then led to the renaming of the competition. Married or divorced women are still not allowed under the rules. Colombian Angie Sanclemente won Valencia in 2000 but was forced to surrender her title after it was revealed that she had been married for three months in 1998.
The event takes place annually in January between more than 20 competitors. Exceptions were the years 1958, 1960, 1962, 1964–71, 1977–78, 1980 and 1986. The Reinado Internacional del Café is hosted and organized by the Culture and Tourism Institute of Manizales. German participants have so far won the title twice, something that no country outside of South America has achieved so far.
