Auxiliary Bishop Reinhard Hauke's coat of arms shows Thuringian motifs

Episcopal coat of arms and motto

The coat of arms is dominated by the bells of the large cathedral bell Gloriosa, namely a representation of Mary with the child. Maria is the patroness of the Erfurt Cathedral. To the right and left above the statue of Mary are the city coats of arms of Erfurt and Weimar, where Hauke was born in 1953. The cross and prelate's hat above the shield reveal the coat of arms as that of a cleric. The green color of the hat and the six tassels that hang on both sides of the hat show that this is a bishop. An archbishop's coat of arms would have ten tassels on each side and that of a cardinal 15.

The motto is: Deus pacis sanctificet vos (“ May the God of peace sanctify you”) from the 1st Letter to the Thessalonians ( 1 Thess 5:23  EU ).
