Reinhard von Hanau-Lichtenberg (born February 19, 1494 in Klingenberg , † October 12, 1537 in Strasbourg ) was a later son of Count Philip II of Hanau-Lichtenberg and Anna von Isenburg .

Together with his brother Ludwig , he renounced claims to the county of Hanau-Lichtenberg in 1505 , which their older brother, Philipp III. , which enabled sole rule in the County of Hanau-Lichtenberg and its undivided preservation.

career

Reinhard studied together with his brother Ludwig law , including Bologna and Freiburg . From his student days in Freiburg , the Zimmerische Chronik reports on an incident in which he and other fellow students freed a young thief shortly before his execution and saved him from the immunity of the Freiburg hospital .

As early as 1507 he received a papal dispensation in order to be able to accept a canon position in Strasbourg . Later he was cathedral curator there . 1509 a Domherrenstelle arrived in Cologne should, at the same time he enrolled at June 30, 1509 at the local university as a student. From 1511 he was pastor in Ober-Roden , where he followed Reinhard Hanauer , an illegitimate son of his grandfather Philip I of Hanau-Lichtenberg .

death

Reinhard died in Strasbourg on October 12, 1537 . He was buried in the collegiate church of St. Adelphi, in Neuwiller-lès-Saverne , the family funeral. His grave is no longer preserved. In his will he set up a foundation for the benefit of the poor in Ober-Roden, the so-called Ober-Roden donation , which fulfilled its purpose for centuries.
