Reinhold Niederhöfer

Reinhold Niederhöfer (born October 31, 1956 in Grünstadt ) is a German politician ( SPD ). From 2010 to December 31, 2017, he was the full-time mayor of the community of Grünstadt-Land ( Rhineland-Palatinate ), which had a good 20,000 inhabitants and was incorporated into the new community of Leiningerland on January 1, 2018 .

Niederhöfer grew up in Kleinkarlbach in a traditionally social democratic family. His father is Wolfgang Niederhöfer (1932–2017), who has made a name for himself in the region as a local politician and senior representative for the SPD as well as a historian and mill expert . The son is also a member of the SPD. He is married and lives in Kleinkarlbach.

At the age of 18, Niederhöfer began his training in the middle service of the community of Grünstadt-Land on June 1, 1975 , which had been created three years earlier through the amalgamation of 16  local communities . After attending the administrative college in Mayen while working , two evening courses followed, first a course to become an accountant at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and then a four-year course in business administration . After graduating, Niederhöfer was promoted to senior service .

In 1988 Niederhöfer took over the management of the municipal works of the association. In 2002 he was elected full-time first alderman by the municipal council and in 2010 in a direct election - as the successor to Eugen Ackermann - in the 1st ballot with 56.4% of the vote as full-time mayor. He is also a member of the district council of the Bad Dürkheim district and of the SPD parliamentary group in the Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region Association. When applying for the successor to the late District Administrator Sabine Röhl (1957–2012), he stood for the SPD and was defeated on April 7, 2013 in a runoff to the CDU candidate Hans-Ulrich Ihlenfeld .

Niederhöfer was elected mayor until 2018. But his term was cut short on 31 December 2017, because on 1 January 2018, the previous Verbandsgemeinden Green urban-rural and Hettenleidelheim the new municipality Leiningerland merged . The merger was largely driven by Niederhöfer.
