Relentless Reckless Forever (dt .: " Ruthless wholeheartedly forever ") is the seventh studio album by Finnish melodic death metal band Children of Bodom . It was released on March 4, 2011.

The album was recorded in August and September 2010.

The guitarist and singer Alexi Laiho , who also wrote all the songs and lyrics for Relentless Reckless Forever , said in an interview about the recording work in the Petrax Studios:

“But we were determined to make the best COB album ever, so we were willing to do whatever it took. Of course, having our producer Matt Hyde kicking our asses 24/7 definitely made the results even better, so obviously we're more than anxious to get this album out there. ”

Children of Bodom recorded in August 2010 at Petrax Studios in Hollola (Finland) and finally in September at Hydeaway Studios in Los Angeles. Keyboard parts were occasionally recorded by Janne Wirman in his own Beyond Abilities Studios. The band was supported by Matt Hyde and Chris Rakestraw, who coordinated the recordings.

The album was later mastered by Tom Baker ( Precision Mastering ) in the USA in October 2010.

The cover art and the booklet were designed by Jussi Hyttinen and Sampo Salaminen.

Release and success

The album was released worldwide on different days:

It was successful and entered the album charts in many countries, even if the placements of the previous album Blooddrunk were significantly better in some countries.

Nevertheless, the band was able to achieve gold status with Relentless Reckless Forever within just one day in their home country Finland (10,000 CDs sold). By March 10, 100,000 copies had been sold worldwide.

reception

The album was rather poorly received by critics compared to the previous albums. The Metal Hammer gave the album a 4 out of 7 points and wrote that they had the ideas Alexi Laihos "across the board all heard that before, from none other than Children of Bodom itself." (Review by Thorsten Zahn) The Kerrang magazine from Great Britain only gave the album 2 out of 5 stars.

But other magazines such as Revolver magazine gave the album 5 out of 5 stars on the grounds that the album would "knock the audience off their feet".
