Blooddrunk is the sixth studio album by the Finnish metal band Children of Bodom . The exact definition of the style of the band is controversial, but the music is often described as melodic death metal , speed metal or death metal called. On Blooddrunk , however, it develops a bit in the direction of Progressive Metal , but also Thrash Metal .
Production and publication
The songs were written between October and December 2007. They were recorded in the Petrax and Finnvox studios . The producer was Mikko Karmila. Alexi Laiho's vocals, however , were recorded and produced by Peter Tägtgren , who has already worked as a producer for numerous black and death metal bands. The keyboards - played by Janne Wirman - were only recorded in the Petrax Studio. Then the recordings were mixed by Mikko Karmila in the Finnvox studio and mastered by Mika Jussila.
The cover artwork shows - as with every previous Children of Bodom album - the Reaper . However, this time it is more in the background. The scythe with which the Grim Reaper is striking is clearly in the foreground . The cover is also splattered with blood. The album was also released on Spinefarm Records UK as a digipack and vinyl edition. On these versions of the album, the cover consists of a bloody handprint on a white background.
The album was released on April 9, 2008 on Spinefarm Records and was distributed in many countries by Universal Music .
After the release, the band went on tour. On the “Gigantour 2008” through North America , Children of Bodom took part with Megadeth , In Flames , Job for a Cowboy and High on Fire with a setlist that also included songs by Blooddrunk. This was followed by a Japan tour, an Australia and New Zealand tour and a tour of the USA . Finally, a tour in the opening act of Slipknot through Europe followed . The Blooddrunks Crawling Over EU Tour 2009 with Cannibal Corpse and Diablo as support acts began in late January 2009.
style
Laiho wrote the songs in autumn 2006 and spring 2007. During this time, he said he was in a very aggressive mood. A clear development towards Thrash Metal can be seen. The band combined elements from originally two different songs to create Roadkill Morning . You can hear a progressive metal influence especially in this song and also in LoBodomy . Roadkill Morning is probably the most aggressive song on the album.
But the music still contains the usual elements that were already heard on the previous albums of Children of Bodom:

The usual "solo duels" between keyboard and guitar for Children of Bodom are included in almost every song. The keyboard remains an important part of the music and often leads the melody. The songs Blooddrunk , One Day You Will Cry and Tie My Rope also begin with a keyboard intro.
All songs are played at a high tempo, the song Banned from Heaven is the exception, it is kept at a moderate tempo.
All songs were written by Laiho, as were the lyrics. The lyrics of LoBodomy were written by Kimberly Goss , the singer of the band Sinergy , in which Laiho is a guitarist .

Blooddrunk is the band's most successful album to date. It reached number 10 in the German album charts, number 19 in Austria and number 50 in Switzerland . In Great Britain it reached number 44 on the charts and even number 1 on the rock album chart. It reached number 22 on the US Billboard charts. In Finland, it topped the charts and sold seven times as often as the album, which was second at the time. It was also awarded a gold record just through pre-orders in Finland .
The single Blooddrunk also immediately reached number 1 in Finland.
