Jaska Raatikainen (born July 18, 1979 in Espoo ) is a Finnish musician who became known as the drummer of the melodic death metal band Children of Bodom .

Life

Raatikainen was born on July 18, 1979 in Lappeenranta, a Finnish city. As a child he began to learn to play the piano and French horn . In 1991 or 1992 he moved with his family to Espoo , a neighboring city of Helsinki . In his new school class he met Alexi Laiho . Both liked hard rock and metal - music , for example, from Metallica and Guns N 'Roses . Together they decided to form a band and Raatikainen therefore began to learn to play the drums . Initially, the band, called Inearthed , played covers of their favorite artists, but in 1993 they recorded their first demo featuring their own compositions. Raatikainen played in a big band for a few years , where he also met the trumpeter and electric guitarist Alexander Kuoppala , who was later accepted into the band. After a bassist and a keyboard player had strengthened the line-up, the band was renamed Children of Bodom and got a record deal with Spinefarm Records .

In the next few years Raatikainen was busy with tours and recordings for Children of Bodom, but also found time for some side projects: in 2000 he had a short appearance in a Finnish soap opera . In May 2001 he helped the band Virtuocity , which still needed a drummer, with the recording of their debut album . In July 2001 and November and December 2002 he played the drums on their album Wither for the dark metal band Evemaster . In 2004 he was asked again by Evemaster for help and so he played on their album Lacrimae Mundi . In 2003 he, Kristian Ranta ( Norther ) and a singer founded the band Gashouse Garden . They recorded a demo and were looking for a record deal. But after this remained unsuccessful and the members had too much to do with their own bands, the project was discontinued. He also helped out on a tour of Sinergy for the injured drummer and played drums at a Norther concert.
