René Školiak (born January 28, 1979 in Liptovský Mikuláš , Czechoslovakia ) is a Slovak ice hockey player . Since 2006 he has played for HK 36 Skalica in the Slovak extra league on the position of the center .

Career

Školiak began his career at HK 32 Liptovský Mikuláš , for which he was used for the first time in the 1996/97 season in the Extraliga , the top division of Slovakia . In the following seven seasons, the player completed more than 250 games for the team from his hometown without ever being able to qualify for the Extraliga play-offs . Between the seasons 2002/03 and 2005/06 René Školiak played after several club changes for both Liptovský Mikuláš, HC Slovan Bratislava and the HK 36 Skalica . With Bratislava he won the Slovak championship in 2003 .

Since the 2006/07 Extraliga season , Školiak has been permanently under contract with HK 36 Skalica. In this season he scored 70 points more than any other player. In the 2007/08 season he reached the play-off semi-finals with Skalica, where he and his team were defeated by HC Košice . The following season he and his team lost the final of the Slovak championship after the HK 36 Skalica lost the best-of-seven series against Košice with 2: 4 games.

In the season 2011/12 René Školiak ran for the first time as assistant captain of the HK 36 Skalica. In the main round of this season, the center scored 62 points in 54 completed games and was the second best point collector in the extra league of this season behind teammate Žigmund Pálffy .
