René Hiepen

René Albert Hiepen (born May 15, 1966 in Wegberg ) is a German presenter , reporter and producer .

Earlier career

René Hiepen started his journalistic career at an early age at the Rheinische Post in Mönchengladbach, for which he mainly reported on Borussia Mönchengladbach . As a freelancer , he also worked for various nationwide radio stations such as Antenne Bayern , and gained his first experience as a live reporter in the Bundesliga and European Cup.

Television career

Hiepen started his TV career on RTL and Premiere . As the youngest German live reporter, he commented on live games in the Champions League for RTL at the age of 27. Hiepen worked for the pay TV broadcaster for a total of eight years . In 1999 he switched to tm3 , which had secured the exclusive rights to the Champions League for four and four years. However, Rupert Murdoch sold the rights after a year and the sports department was dissolved. Hiepen then moved to ZDF in the summer of 2000 , where he worked as a sports presenter until the end of October 2006. During his time at ZDF, Hiepen was a presenter at two soccer world championships , including the final of the 2002 World Cup , and three Olympic Games (2002, 2004 and 2006). In addition to Johannes B. Kerner and Michael Steinbrecher , he was a regular presenter for live soccer broadcasts on ZDF.

He has received several awards for his emotional live commentary on the Olympic hockey final in Athens. In addition, he made a name for himself as a boxing commentator and presenter and commented, among other things, on the fight between Lennox Lewis and Vitali Klitschko on June 21, 2003. In winter, Hiepen presented as a presenter for five years with expert Armin Bittner alpine skiing competitions, as well as speed skating decisions at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin.

After the 2006 World Cup, Hiepen stopped working for ZDF after announcing his departure for personal reasons on a live boxing show. In January 1986, at the age of 19, Hiepen volunteered for the French Foreign Legion , from which he deserted in June of the same year. Since Hiepen had to expect a prison sentence on entry to France because of the arrest warrant issued against him , he avoided crossing the border for years.

Awards

In 2004 he received the Herbert Award for his live report on the Olympic victory of the German women's hockey team . As a live soccer reporter, he won the silver award in the same year. 5000 German top athletes voted on the winners for this prize.

In November 2013 René Hiepen was awarded the Video Champion of the Year 2013 for the DVD / BluRay production Mia san Champions with the included film about FC Bayern Munich Wembley - Football is coming hoam .
