Rene Simpson Collins (born January 14, 1966 in Sarnia , † October 17, 2013 in Chicago , United States ) was a Canadian tennis player .

Career

Before Simpson started on the WTA Tour , she played NCAA tennis at Texas Christian University . Her best result in singles at a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the third round in 1989 at the French Open. She was more successful in doubles: in 1996 she reached the quarterfinals of the US Open . She also won three double titles in WTA tournaments.

At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, ​​Simpson competed for her country in singles and doubles.

From 1988 to 1998 she played for the Canadian Fed Cup team , whose team boss she was from 2001 to 2010.

Personal

Simpson was married to Jason Collins. She died on October 17, 2013 of complications from a brain tumor.
