Due to problems with young talent in the police department in Cologne-Mülheim , the retired commissioners Edwin Bremer and Günter Hoffmann are called back to active police service. Department head Vicky Adam is initially skeptical of both. Even over time, she can't get used to the outdated approach of the two, but she has to acknowledge that the retirees deliver quite good results. The team is completed by candidate Hui Ko and forensic specialists Dr. Oliver Körfer (Season 1) and Dr. Rosalind Schmidt (from 2nd season).

Production and broadcast

The television series is produced by Bavaria Fiction.

The first season was produced from September 8 to November 28, 2014.

The first half of the second season was worked on from September 8th to December 3rd, 2015 .; the second half was created between May 6 and September 1, 2016. Directed by Thomas Durchschlag (episodes 17–20) and Michael Schneider (episodes 21–24).

The second season was broadcast from November 16, 2016.

The first half of the third season with eight episodes was filmed from June 20, 2017 to August 28, 2017 in Cologne and the surrounding area (episodes 25-32); the second half from April 6, 2018 to July 12, 2018.

From September 5, 2018 to January 2, 2019 season 3 with 16 new episodes (25-40) was broadcast on the first.

The shooting of the fourth season (episodes 41-56) lasted from March to October 2019. When the shooting began, Peter Lerchbaumer took on the role of Günter Hoffmann from episode 41 after Wolfgang Winkler left the series at his own request. With Swetlana Schönfeld as Hannah , the team is five from episode 47. On April 1, 2020, the series was extended by a fifth season with 8 new episodes (57-64). The district is located at Stolberger Straße 1 in Cologne.

Awards

In both 2015 (season 1) and 2016 (season 2) the series was nominated for the Jupiter Award in the category Best TV Series National . In 2018 the Bavaria Fiction received for Rentnercops the Fair Film Award .

Trivia

  • Both Prückner and Winkler have embodied commissioners in the past. Prückner played from 1993 to 1999 in Adelheid and her murderer chief detective Gernot Schubert and from 2001 to 2008 in the Hamburg crime scene chief detective Eduard Holicek . Winkler was seen from 1996 to 2013 at the side of Jaecki Schwarz as chief detective Herbert Schneider in police call 110 ( Schmücke and Schneider ).
  • Aaron Le also works in real life as a police officer and in Central Property Protection.
  • Almost all episodes of seasons 1 and 2 carry titles of more or less well-known (German or German-speaking) hits or evergreens / ( chart ) hits from the areas of Schlager, Neue Deutsche Welle , ( German ) rock etc., whereby the eponymous The song usually appears or is played at a more or less central point in the respective episode.
  • In several episodes, the chairman of the German police union, Rainer Wendt , plays himself.

  2. An exception in this regard only Episode 22 is, for those with A Kind of Magic by Queen an English song Godfather was, but again, the title was at least translated into German.
