Resolution 1969 of the UN Security Council was on 24 February 2011, Recalling resolutions 1599 , 1677 , 1690 , 1703 , 1704 , 1745 , 1802 , 1867 and 1912 adopted unanimously. It establishes the extension of the mandate of the United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste ( UNMIT ) for one year.
The Security Council expanded UNMIT's mandate to 1,520 uniformed men, 1,480 police forces and 1,200 civilian employees by February 26, 2012. It calls on all parties in East Timor to participate in political dialogue and to promote social, democratic and economic development. UNMIT was called in to accompany the preparations for the parliamentary and presidential elections in 2012 . Until then, the government should push ahead with reforming the security forces, including the East Timorese National Police .
The resolution advocates adapting UNMIT to the changed situation in East Timor and preparing for the withdrawal of troops. Until the National Police of East Timor can take full responsibility in the country, the UNMIT mission is to ensure the enforcement of the law. In the resolution, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon was instructed by the Security Council to monitor the situation in East Timor and to report progress to the Security Council.
