Retkowo ( German  Rettkowen , 1938 to 1945 Rettkau (Ostpr.) ) Is an orphaned local authority in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship . It is located in the area of ​​the rural community Janowo in the powiat Nidzicki ( Neidenburg district ).

The local office of Rettkowen (before 1871 Retkowen ) reminds of a small place that was founded in 1710 as a Schatulldorf. In 1874 the village was incorporated into the district of Roggen ( Polish: Róg ) in the East Prussian district of Neidenburg . In 1910 there were 176 inhabitants in Rettkowen, in 1933 there were 177.

On June 3, 1938 - officially confirmed on July 16 - Rettkowen was renamed "Rettkau (Ostpr.)" For political and ideological reasons to defend against foreign sounding place names. The population was 157 in 1939.

As a result of the war, the village came to Poland in 1945 with all of southern East Prussia and was given the Polish form of the name “Retkowo”. In the first post-war years it was still settled, but then abandoned and integrated into the military area adjacent to the north. The place is considered to no longer exist. The local office belongs to the rural community Janowo in the powiat Nidzicki ( Neidenburg district ).

Until 1945 Rettkowen resp. Rettkau in the Protestant church Muschaken in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union and in the Roman Catholic Church Neidenburg .

The local office of Rettkowen / Rettkau can only be reached today via an impassable path from Ulesie (Ulleschen) .
