Wichrowiec ( German Wychrowitz , 1938 to 1945 Hardichhausen ) is a village in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship . It belongs to the rural community Janowo in the powiat Nidzicki ( Neidenburg district ).
Geographical location
Wichrowiec is located in the southwestern center of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship , 18 kilometers east of the district town of Nidzica ( German Neidenburg ).
history
The village Wichrowietzke after 1785 Wichrowitz , after 1820 Wychrowitz called, was founded 1571st In 1874 it was incorporated into the newly established district of Roggen (Polish: Róg ) in the East Prussian district of Neidenburg . The population of Wychrowitz was 289 in 1910 and 259 in 1933.
On June 3, 1938 - officially confirmed on July 16 - Wychrowitz was renamed "Hardichhausen" for political and ideological reasons to defend against foreign-sounding place names. The population decreased to 229 by 1939.
When the whole of southern East Prussia was transferred to Poland in 1945 as a result of the war , Hardichhausen was also affected. The village received the Polish name form "Wichrowiec" and is today as the seat of a Schulzenamts (Polish Sołectwo ) a place in the network of the rural community Janowo in the powiat Nidzicki ( Neidenburg district ), until 1998 the Olsztyn Voivodeship , since then the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship . In 2011 Wichrowiec had 118 inhabitants.

Until 1945 Wychrowitz resp. Hardichhausen in the Protestant parish Muschaken (Polish Muszaki ) in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union and in the Roman Catholic Church Neidenburg in the Diocese of Warmia .
Today, Wichrowiec belongs on the Protestant side to the parish in Róg (Roggen) , a branch of the parish in Nidzica in the Masuria diocese of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland , and on the Catholic side to the Muszaki parish church in the current Archdiocese of Warmia .
