Revenant ( s . And fr ., Revenant ') was a thrash and death metal band from Bergenfield , New Jersey , USA , which was founded in 1986 and disbanded 1995th

history

The band was formed in the spring of 1986 by bassist John Pratscher and guitarist and singer Henry Veggian. The following year guitarist John McEntee and drummer Joe Fregenti joined the band and recorded the first demo called Beyond the Winds of Sorrow . In August, the band held their first live performances, performing alongside Prime Evil , Immolation and Ripping Corpse . A second demo followed in 1988, called Asphyxiated Time . John Pratscher left the band that same year and was replaced by Tim Scott. The band also played a few concerts, including performances with Morbid Angel and Immolation. Drummer Joe Fregenti then left the band and was replaced by Jon Regan. In the summer of 1989, John McEntee left the band to form Incantation . Tim Scott and Henry Veggian then worked on new songs. In the fall of 1989, drummer Will Corcoran and guitarist David Jengo joined the band. Another demo followed in the same year. The band also opened a concert of Napalm Death .

In 1989 the EP Distant Eyes was released on Thrash Records . In the summer of 1990 a tour with Ripping Corpse and Morbid Angel followed through the USA. Revenant signed a deal with Nuclear Blast towards the end of the year . The song Degeneration was immediately taken over to the first edition of the compilation series of the label called Death is Just the Beginning . In January 1991 the band recorded the album Prophecies of a Dying World at Quantum Studios in Jersey City . The release was followed by a tour of Europe towards the end of the year , which included 23 concerts. It was performed with the Dutch band Gorefest , with concerts together with Napalm Death and - where the tour routes crossed - Pungent Stench .

During the winter tour, the band recorded a video for the song in Hamburg . The video premiered at Headbangers Ball on MTV in the spring of 1992. In the same year the band canceled their contract with Nuclear Blast. The band started writing new tracks and recorded them in some local studios. In the spring of 1993, the band released the EP Burning Ground / Exalted Being on Rage Records . Several concerts followed the publication. In October 1993 the band recorded another demo. The first song Faithless (Emptiness) was an excerpt from a three-part recording process, the second and third parts were not included on the demo, but were often played live.

In 1994 the band worked on more songs. In January 1995 the band moved to Showplace Studios in Dover , New Jersey. This was followed by a second recording for a phonogram that was to be called A New Paganism . However, there was no release because the band split up in 1995. The EP was remixed and released in 2002 under the name Overman . The album was mixed by Erik Rutan , ex-guitarist of Ripping Corpse and currently working for Hate Eternal . During their career the band shared the stages with various bands including Type O Negative , Biohazard , Godflesh , Dog Eat Dog , Napalm Death, Machine Head , Cannibal Corpse , Suffocation , Monster Magnet , Brutal Truth , Life of Agony , Deceased , Morbid Angel , Nokturnel , Immolation , Ripping Corpse and Atheist . The band made their last appearance in September 1994 when they opened a concert for Napalm Death in Belleville , New Jersey.

After the breakup, Tim Scott played bass in Hateplow , David Jengo and Henry Veggian played in Whiplash . In 2004 the band signed a contract with Xtreem Music and released the old demos, unreleased and rare material in the form of a compilation on the label. The Burning Ground was mixed by Rick Dierdorf in January 2005 at Portrait Recording Studios in Lincoln Park , New Jersey, and then mastered by Colin Davis .

style

In 1992, Rock Hard saw the band act in the fields of death metal and thrash metal , with a complex technical orientation. The frequent tempo changes are characteristic of the band's songs. On their Myspace page, the band lists the works of Friedrich Nietzsche as the main influences for their lyrics.
