History

Due to the omission of the main net snow blowers, there were problems that not enough snow blowers were available during heavy snowfalls, which mostly occurred in the Prättigau , on the Arosa and Albula lines at the same time. They had the Xrot m 9216 , but this alone could not clear all areas within a useful time.

Initially, an order for two vehicles was planned , but this was then reduced to one. The order was made together with the FO, which also ordered one. At the same time, the NSB ordered practically the same type, albeit with two differences, those of the NSB were designed for standard gauge and self-propelled. The RhB opted for a non-self-propelled one for two reasons. On the one hand, the two snow blowers of the FO and RhB could be kept identical, as a gear drive for the FO would be very complicated, on the other hand it could save about half a million francs.

The Gm 3/3 was planned as a sliding locomotive at that time , but today it can also remote-control the newer Gmf 4/4 .

construction

Two 334 kW diesel engines from Deutz are used to drive the centrifugal wheels . As with the electric centrifuges for the Bernina line, these can also be rotated 180 ° on the bogie . Components of the centrifugal wheels can also be exchanged with the RhB Xrotet . With a clearing width of up to 4.6 m with extended corrugated plates and a clearing height of 2.5 m, with a clearing capacity of 11,700 t / h, this snow blower set new standards for the RhB.

Conversions

For a better overview, the snow blower was equipped with a camera and an associated monitor in the driver's cab .

Xrot mt from Zaugg

Four new vehicles were ordered from Zaugg AG. Like the previous generation, the new snow blowers can be rotated. In contrast to the older snow blowers, which work with a blower wheel, these machines work with milling drums. The Xrot m 9214, also built by Zaugg, is an exception .

As with most older machines, snow removal is carried out in two passes on these machines. In the first pass, the milling drums are close together. This will cut away a first narrow slot. In a second pass, the milling drums are extended to the side to remove the edges.

During the snow removal, the snow blowers 95401-95404 are regularly pushed by the Gmf 4/4 II . The Gmf 4/4 II can be remotely controlled from the snow blower for this purpose.

The two large snow blowers were delivered in May and December 2011 and are to be used on the Bernina line . They have a clearing capacity of 8,500 t / h. The centrifugal units can be extended to the side to a clearing width of 6 m.

954 01 and 954 02 for the trunk network

The two small snow blowers were delivered in 2012 and are used on the Albula line and on the routes to Arosa and Disentis .
