As Alvra ( Romansh for Albula ) are at the Rhaetian Railway six-part the acquired (RhB) from 2015, articulated trains with numbers 5701 referred to the 5706th The trains are used on the Albula Railway (including the north access ) in the Interregio express train service between Chur and St. Moritz .

history

In 2010, the RhB put the procurement of seven car sets for the Chur - St. Moritz route out to tender. Stadler Rail was awarded the contract in December 2010 . The order was later modified, the RhB decided to add a control car to the six-part trains and to reduce the number of compositions to be delivered from seven to six. This resulted in a considerable delay.

The decision to operate the trains as shuttle trains led to extensive adjustments. Originally, the trains were to consist of two first-class and four second-class cars. Because of the pure first-class control car At 578, it was decided to design the second first-class car as an AB. This means that a total of 90 places are available in first class, 20 more than in the original variant.

Construction of the trains at Stadler's Altenrhein plant began in November 2014 . The first three cars of the first train arrived in Landquart on December 2, 2015, and the second part one day later.

The six seven-part car trains including control cars built by Stadler Rail are part of the RhB quality offensive. The first Alvra were put into operation in 2016 without a control car. The last three of six control cars were delivered on September 26, 2017, completing all trains.

construction

General:

The Alvra articulated train consists of six cars of the types Bi 576, B 574, B 573, B 577, AB 572 and A 570. and runs as a uniform articulated train between Chur and St. Moritz. The car bodies are derived from ABe 4/16 . The locomotives of the Ge 4/4 II and Ge 4/4 III series and the ABe 8/12 Allegra railcars are technically possible.

RhB Alvra end car Bi 57602
End link wagon Bi 576

is the end car of the articulated train with a low-floor area in the middle. It has 41 2nd class seats, six of which are in the high-floor area in the middle lengthways to each side of the panorama photo compartment and 16 seats in a 2 + 2 arrangement with a small table in the middle and 13 seats in the low-floor area with a 2 + 2 arrangement with a small table in the middle and twice in the 2 + 1 arrangement with wheelchair space and a small table in the middle as well as three folding seats in the longitudinal direction. There is also a handicapped accessible toilet in the low-floor area.

One end of the car has couplings, hoses and cables that correspond to the RhB standards.

Articulated wagons B 574 and B 573

are high-floor intermediate cars with 64 2nd class seats in a 2 + 2 arrangement with a small table in between and an area for a bicycle and a stroller.

Articulated car B 577 with family, leisure and multifunctional compartment

RhB Alvra 5702 addresses technical data

Technical

The trains have a wide double door of 1400 mm per car body, which is used to bridge gaps with extendable sliding steps depending on the platform height. In contrast to the previous wagons with vacuum brakes , the articulated trains are only equipped with air brakes. Therefore, only locomotives of the Ge 4/4 II and III series and the Allegra ABe 8/12 multiple units converted to air brakes are suitable as traction means. Because of the previously low heating voltage of only 320 V on the RhB, baggage cars converted into heating cars had to be added to the trains. The new trains therefore have a heating voltage of 1000 V so that they can run autonomously. The passenger compartments are equipped with a CO 2 -controlled air conditioning system and have floor and wall heating. The car bodies are made of extruded aluminum profiles and have air-sprung running bogies. The vehicle control system is train bus-controlled and has a diagnostic computer. The most important systems are designed redundantly. Inside the train, the cars are closely coupled and offer wide car crossings. The train has intelligent light and energy management.

business

After a long period of testing, the RhB has been using one of the new six-part Albula articulated trains , each with an At control car and a Ge 4/4 III, for passenger traffic between Chur and St. Moritz since October 22, 2018, and two since November 11, 2018 . The composition is drawn towards the Engadin and pushed towards Chur. At the end of October, four converted Ge 4/4 III with the required dual brake were available for the compositions.

Since December 23, 2017, the lights in the 1st class compartments have been dimmed in the dark.
