Ribnik (until 1918 Riburg ) is a Croatian municipality in the central Croatian Karlovac County , not far from the Slovenian border (Jurovski Brod - Metlika border crossing ).
history
The former municipality of Lipnik, today Ribnik, existed before the 13th century. Landowners around Ribnik were among others: Nikola Zrinski , Gašpar Colarić , Grgur Vlahović and the aristocratic families Sturmberger , Lenković , Zrinjski, to name just a few.
As early as 1418 the community had 25 villages with 4,784 inhabitants. This is engraved in the Ribnik church bell. However, since the way to Ribnik was too far for many, z. For example, the residents of Bubnjarci attended Holy Mass in nearby Metlika in Carniola .
One of the decisive roles in the spread of Protestantism in northern Croatia in the 16th century was played by the Lutheran and Calvinist preachers. The local preachers stood out in the area of Agram County: The Lutherans Ivan Drugnic from the Križevci County and Grgur Vlahović from Ribnik as well as Petar Lukić , born in Trg near Ozalj , a nobleman who had large estates near Ribnik.
Moated castle

In Ribnik there is a former moated castle , which was built by the Croatian princely family of Babonić , Károly Róbert in the 13th century. The famous noble families der and Mikač were owners until the 14th century. It came into the ownership of the Frankopan in 1394. From 1576 it fell to the Zrinski family . From 1702 to 1809 it was owned by the Petazzi family . In 1839, Joseph Philipp Vukasović , the builder of Luisenstrasse ( Skrad near Delnice ), bought the property. Josip Gal bought it in 1858 .
The castle is located in the valley of the Obvrh brook, which was dammed up so that a large fish pond was created. The castle was accessible as an island via a drawbridge. The still visible part of the defense tower with the Frankopan coat of arms was originally very high. In the castle, due to the permanent owners, you can still admire the impressive Gothic and Renaissance architecture .
