Richard H. Vose

Richard H. Vose (born November 8, 1803 in Augusta , Kennebec County , Maine , † January 19, 1864 ) was an American politician and 1841 acting governor of the state of Maine.

Career

Richard H. Vose attended Bowdoin College, where he graduated in 1822. Where he studied law and then opened law offices in Worcester ( Massachusetts ) and Augusta (Maine). Vose decided to embark on a political career in 1824 when he successfully ran for a seat in the Maine House of Representatives . He held this post again in 1835, 1838 and 1839. He also served in the Maine Senate between 1840 and 1841 , of which he was Senate President in 1841 . On January 12, 1841, Governor John Fairfield resigned from his post and Vose, who was then President of the Senate, then took over his office. He held this office until January 13, 1841, when the new Governor Edward Kent was elected and took office. Vose then resumed his Senate post. He later served as the district attorney for Kennebec County from 1848 to 1856 .

Richard H. Vose was married to Harriet Chandler. The couple had two children together.
