Robert Haskell

Robert N. Haskell (born August 24, 1903 in Bangor , Penobscot County , Maine , † December 3, 1987 ibid) was an American politician and in January 1959 governor of Maine.

Early years and political advancement

After elementary school, Haskell studied engineering at the University of Maine through 1925. He then made a career in a company that operated hydropower plants, which led him to the position of head of the company until 1958. Haskell had been politically active since 1945. Between 1945 and 1947 he was a member of the Maine House of Representatives . He was then elected to that state's Senate for five terms . There he was even its president at times. He was a member of the Republican Party .

Governor of Maine and another résumé

After the resignation of Governor Edmund S. Muskie on January 2, 1959, Haskell had to end his tenure as Senate President in accordance with the constitution. In this case, it was only five days until January 7, 1959, the day on which the newly elected Governor Clinton Clauson was appointed. After that, Haskell withdrew from politics. He continued to be the director and director of his company, and he was a curator of the University of Maine. He was also on the board of directors of Bangor Merchants National Bank. Robert Haskell died on December 3, 1987.
