Richard Schenz (born January 25, 1940 in Vienna ) is an Austrian manager. From 1992 to 2001 he was CEO and General Director of the Austrian mineral oil company OMV and from 2002 to 2012 capital market officer of the Austrian federal government and the Ministry of Finance . Since 2000 he has been Vice President of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce (WKO).

Life

Richard Schenz studied electrical engineering at the HTL Wien 10 , where he graduated in 1959 . He then began studying technical physics at the Vienna University of Technology (TH Wien), which he graduated in 1964 as a graduate engineer. He wrote his diploma thesis in the field of nuclear physics at the Seibersdorf Reactor Center . From 1965 to 1967 worked as a researcher at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Solid State in Vienna, in 1967 received his doctorate he at the Technical University of Vienna to Dr. techn. , he wrote his dissertation in the field of deep temperature and solid state physics . In 1968 he was an assistant at the Institute for Applied Physics at Vienna University of Technology.

In 1969 he started at the Austrian Mineral Oil Administration (ÖMV) in the technical computer department, and from 1971 worked in production planning and the expansion of the refinery. In 1979 he became head of production planning and in 1985 he was appointed director. In 1988 he was appointed to the board of directors of ÖMV Aktiengesellschaft, where he was responsible for the petroleum processing and petrochemicals sectors. In 1990 he became deputy chairman of the board and deputy general director , and in 1992 he succeeded Siegfried Meysel as general director and chairman of the board of the ÖMV. In 2001, Schenz was replaced in this role by Wolfgang Ruttenstorfer . He then had a one-year consultancy contract with OMV.

In 2002, at the suggestion of the Federal Ministry of Finance, he became government commissioner for the capital market and chairman of the Austrian working group for corporate governance . From 1992 to 2001 he also served as head of the Association of the Petroleum Industry , and from 1996 to 2002 he was President of the Vienna Regional Group of the Federation of Industry . In 2000 he became Vice President of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce , and in 2001 President of ICC Austria .

From 2003 to 2008 he was a member of the University Council of the Montanuniversität Leoben . Schenz has been a member of the supervisory board of Feratel Media Technologies AG since 2003 , and of BIOLUX GmbH and PEG MedAustron GmbH since 2007 . In 2006/07 he was a member of the supervisory board of Bawag PSK and from 2006 to 2011 chairman of the supervisory board of the Swietelsky building company.

From 2007 to 2012 he was the chairman of the quality control authority for statutory auditors and audit firms. In 2009 he became President of the Austrian-Arab Chamber of Commerce and in 2012 also President of the Austrian-Kazakh Society. In November 2015 he was elected President of the Austrian-Russian Friendship Society (ORFG). From 2016 he was Austrian government commissioner for the World Exhibition in Astana 2017 .
