The Viehbach , in its continuation called Rietrather Bach , is a brook in North Rhine-Westphalia .
In 1555 the brook was referred to as "Vehebach" and in 1805 as "Wybach". The stream with the water body number 2737422 is named differently today along its length:
- In Solingen and Langenfeld (Rhineland) Viehbach to the Riethrath mill .
- After that it is called Riethrather Bach.
- The old name "Mühlenbach", west of Hildener Straße, is in the original cadastre from 1829.
The source area of the brook is about 200 m above sea level. NN, in a wetland in Solingen- Obengönrath , west of the Viebachtalstraße named after him, the L141n . On the first 6.8 km in Solingen, he crosses the expressway named after him several times from right to left and vice versa. Near the former Krüdersheider mill, only House, it reaches the city boundary Langenfeld (Rheinland) at the coordinates 51 ° 8 '51 " N , 6 ° 59' 13" O . In Düsseldorf near Garath Castle , at 42 m above sea level. NN, the Viehbach / Riethrather Bach flows into the Garather Mühlenbach . He has covered a distance of approx. 13.2 km to get there. From here it is about 7.5 km until it, together with the Garather Mühlenbach near Urdenbach and 6 ° 51'37 ″ E; 51 ° 9'10 ″ N at 32 m above sea level NN flows into the Rhine. On this way they take up the Langforter-Galkhauser Bach including the Burbach coming from Solingen, the Baumberger Graben and the Horster Flutgraben, an outflow of the Itterbach, and become the Urdenbacher Altrhein .
In the course of five centuries, twelve water drives have been located on the Viehbach, they were hammer mills, grinding cabins , fruit and oil mills. The former Garath mill, later a sawmill, was also dependent on the additional Viehbach water. In the calculation basis of the water flow for the Schleifkotten Krüdersheider Mühle, A. Selbach determined on March 5, 1930 that up to this dam (70 m above sea level) there is a catchment area of 9 km² and the "largest flood volume of 2.7 m³ per Second ”.
