The Rifugio Aosta (also Rifugio Capanna Aosta ) is a refuge in the Aosta Valley in the Valais Alps . It is located at an altitude of 2788  m within the municipality of Bionaz on the site of the Haut Glacier de Tsa de Tsan . The hut is open from mid-April to mid-May and from the end of June to the beginning of September and offers sleeping places for 24 mountaineers during this time.

rise

The path to the hut starts at the parking lot at the Place Moulin reservoir . From there, the initially flat path leads over an unpaved road to the Rifugio Prarayer (just a few minutes after the car park, the path to the Rifugio Nacamuli al Col Collon branches off to the left). Up to there the path leads almost exclusively along the lake. Only during the last 15 minutes do you climb up to the mountain hut on meadow.

After the Rifugio Prarayer, the path continues into the valley. After about 20 minutes you reach a bridge and there is a steep climb to overcome a gorge. Then you come to an alluvial plain formed by glaciers, the Alp de Tsa de Tsan. After about 30 minutes you reach the alluvial plain of Glacier Tsa de Tsan after a step in the terrain. The last part of the ascent on the rock carved by glaciers is secured by chains.

The entire route from the car park to the Rifugio Aosta takes almost 4 hours.

history

The first refuge was built in 1908. However, this building fell victim to an avalanche in 1951. 5 years later the new Aosta hut was opened. The roof of this hut was covered by a violent storm in 1990. The Rifugio Aosta in its current appearance was opened in 1995.
