Rivière Saint-François
The Rivière Saint-François is a right tributary of the Saint Lawrence River in the south of the Canadian province of Québec .
280 km long, according to Francis of Assisi named River drains an area of 10,230 square kilometers, of which 14% to inflows in the south bordering the US state of Vermont .
The river has its source in Lac Saint-François in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains , around 15 km south of the town of Thetford Mines . The Barrage Allard is located at the outflow of the Lac Saint-François. It initially flows in a south-westerly direction. It flows through the Lac Aymler reservoir , which is dammed by the Aymler Barrage . Shortly before Sherbrooke it describes a striking 90 ° bend and turns northwest into the flat plain of the Saint Lawrence Valley. Here its main tributaries flow into the river from the left: Rivière Massawippi and Rivière Magog . About 15 kilometers above Drummondville , a bend in the river has the shape of a duck's head and is accordingly known as "le Bec du Canard". At the village of Pierreville , the river finally flows into Lac Saint-Pierre , which forms part of the river. One kilometer southwest of the mouth of the Saint-François is that of the Rivière Yamaska .
Hydropower plants
The 225 m gradient of the Rivière Saint-François is used by several hydropower plants with a total installed capacity of more than 55 MW.
There are two hydro-Québec (HQ) hydroelectric power stations on the river .
Hydro-Sherbrooke operates two smaller hydropower plants on the Rivière Saint-François - at Weedon ( ⊙ ) and at Westbury ( ⊙ ).
Boralex operates a run-of-river power plant ( ⊙ ) near East Angus . The power plant from 1898 was renewed in 1992. It has an installed capacity of 2 MW with a fall height of 5.3 m.
Another hydropower plant ( ⊙ ) was commissioned on January 21, 1996 near Windsor . It has 5 Kaplan turbines with a total output of 5.5 MW and uses a head of 5.6 m.
The Barrage de la Chute-Hemmings ( ⊙ ) was completed in 1924. It has a height of 18 m, a length of 701 m and a storage volume of 20 million m³.
The Barrage de Drummondville ( ⊙ ) was built in 1914, has a height of 22 m, a length of 919 m and a storage volume of 1 million m³.
At Bromptonville , northwest of Sherbrooke, the Barrage Larocque is on the river. The hydropower plant located there ( gelegene ) has an output of 9.9 MW and is operated by Kruger Energy .
