Robert Samuel Kiernan , short: Rob Kiernan (born January 13, 1991 in Rickmansworth ) is an Irish football player who plays for Southend United .

Career

Rob Kiernan was born in the English town of Rickmansworth 7 km west of Watford in 1991 . He began his career in the Youth Academy of Watford FC for whom he played until the year of 2008. He made his debut for the club in January 2009 in the fourth round of the English Cup against Crystal Palace FC when he was substituted on for Gavin Hoyte . It remained in addition to another use in the 2010/11 cup against Brighton & Hove Albion, his only two competitive games for the club. In February 2010, Kiernan was awarded to the Scottish first division club FC Kilmarnock for the remainder of the 2010/11 season . He made his debut for Killie the day after signing Celtic Glasgow when he came on as a substitute in a 1-0 home win for Tim Clancy . It was the club's first home win over Celtic in nine years. After four league appearances in Scotland, 19-year-old Kiernan returned to Watford in the summer of 2010 before being loaned out to Yeovil Town , Bradford City and the Wycombe Wanderers . In the third and fourth division from England, however, he was only a supplementary player. After the 2010/11 season, Kiernan moved to Wigan Athletic on a free transfer after rejecting a contract extension at Watford. From March to May 2012 it was awarded by Wigan to Accrington Stanley . This was followed by four loans to Burton Albion , Brentford FC , Southend United and Birmingham City in three more years .

In June 2015, Kiernan moved to the Glasgow Rangers in Scotland. He was alongside James Tavernier and Martyn Waghorn one of three new signings from Wigan of the new Rangers coach Mark Warburton . With the Rangers he became a regular player in his first season and won the Challenge Cup in addition to the second division championship , and reached the Scottish Cup final .

National team

Born in England, Kiernan played for Ireland's U-18, U-19 and U-21 national teams from 2008 to 2012 . He made his debut in the U-18 in October 2008. From 2009 to 2010 he was active six times in the U-19. He then played for the U-21s for three years.
