Robert Gerhard Böninger (born January 29, 1869 in London , † October 31, 1935 in Düsseldorf ) was a German painter and graphic artist from the Düsseldorf School .

Life

From 1888 to 1897 Böninger studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy with teachers Peter Janssen and Adolf Schill . In Düsseldorf he was a member of the artists' association Malkasten . He was also a member of the German Association of Artists . After studying in southern Italy , the symbolist picture Idyll was created in 1897 . In 1905 Böninger stayed in Noordwijk - probably at the suggestion of Ludolph Berkemeier . In 1909 he turned down the professorship he had been offered at the Düsseldorf Art Academy and moved to Munich . From 1909 to 1911 he had the architect Paul Ludwig Troost build a spacious house with a studio for him near the future garden town of Bogenhausen-Priel at the former Ismaninger Straße 180 (later Oberföhringer Straße 24) . It was forgotten in the 1920s. He returned to Düsseldorf, where he died in 1935. Böninger was married to Marie Antonie, née Dübbers, who inherited his Munich villa. The daughter Hertha, born in 1894, married Richard von Tiedemann (1877–1956), the son of Heinrich von Tiedemann-Seeheim .
