Robert Geissler
Franz Wilhelm Robert Geißler (also Geissler ; born February 7, 1819 in Göttingen ; † October 7, 1893 in Groß Schneen ) was a German painter , draftsman , graphic artist , writer, lithographer and journalist.
Life
family
Robert Geißler was born in Göttingen at the time of the Kingdom of Hanover as the son of the Leipzig mineralogist August Geißler and brother of Julius Geißler . He himself later became the father of Wilhelm Geißler .
Career
Robert Geißler began his training at the institute for porcelain painting with Heinrich Friedrich Wedemeyer in Göttingen . He then studied at the Kassel Art Academy . Later he stayed in Celle and Hanover .
In the period from 1855 to 1866, Geissler worked as a draftsman, xylograph and lithographer in Hamburg and Bremen . Geissler also worked as a "woodcut draftsman" for the Illustrirte Zeitung published in Leipzig .
Geissler also worked as an author and editor of travel guides and magazines. He published albums with lithographs from Hamburg , Stralsund , Stettin , Greifswald and Stuttgart . Robert Geißler also wrote reports from the Paris World Exhibition in 1867 , plays and novellas, and worked as a journalist for all Göttingen newspapers.
