Robert Louis-Dreyfus (also RLD ; born June 14, 1946 in Paris , † July 4,  2009 in Zurich ) was a French - Swiss entrepreneur .

Life

Robert Louis Maurice Louis-Dreyfus was born in 1946 to Jean Louis-Dreyfus (1908-2003) in Paris. He attended the Lycee Marcel Roby in Saint-Germain-en-Laye and the EDC Paris Business School . From 1971 to 1973 he studied business administration at Harvard Business School with an MBA degree. In 1973 he joined the family company Louis-Dreyfus SA . From 1982 to 1988 he was Chief Operating Officer (COO), later Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the US pharmaceutical market research company IMS , and from 1989 to 1993 CEO of Saatchi & Saatchi .

From April 1993 to 2001 Louis-Dreyfus was CEO of Adidas , led the troubled sporting goods company out of the red and brought it to the stock exchange in 1995.

From 1996 Louis-Dreyfus was the largest shareholder in the French football club Olympique Marseille , and also a board member of the Belgian club Standard Liège . From 2000 he headed the family holding company of the Louis Dreyfus Group . Until 2004 he was a shareholder (35 percent) and chairman of the supervisory board of the telecommunications company Neuf Cegetel .

Louis-Dreyfus was married to Margarita Louis-Dreyfus for the second time and had three children. His cousin is the actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus . He died of leukemia .

On October 16, 2015, Der Spiegel wrote that the award of the 2006 soccer World Cup to Germany was “presumably bought” and that Louis-Dreyfus was heavily involved. The German Football Association rejected the allegations.
