Robin Gregory

Robin Marshall Gregory (born 1936 in Chester , Cheshire , England ; died 2004 in Truro , Cornwall , England) was a British sound engineer .

Life

Gregory began his career in the mid-1960s, making his debut in 1964 in the drama The First Night with Peter Finch in the lead role. In 1966 he worked as a sound engineer on Michelangelo Antonioni's cult film Blow Up , two years later on Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey , another cult film from the 1960s. After a few more British productions he received in 1978 together with Walter Goss , Rick Alexander and Tom Beckert an Oscar nomination in the category Best Sound for Hollywood - Thriller The depth of Peter Yates . In 1982 he was nominated again for an Oscar for Peter Hyams British science fiction - Western Outland - Planet of the Damned , this time together with John Wilkinson , Robert W. Glass Jr. and Robert Thirlwell .

Gregory also worked occasionally for television, including the miniseries The Firestorm . For this he received two of his three Primetime Emmy nominations. However, he could not win this award or the Oscar. At the end of the 1980s he retired from the film business.
