Roland Graßberger (born November 26, 1867 in Salzburg , † December 4, 1956 in Vienna ) was an Austrian hygienist .

Life

Roland Graßberger, son of the general practitioner Karl Graßberger (1836-1881) and the doctor's daughter Maria nee Wöhler (1840-1910), turned to the study of medicine at the University of Vienna after graduating from high school , which he did in 1892 with the acquisition of the academic Degree of a Dr. med. completed.

After Graßberger had been employed as an anatomical demonstrator, internship and secondary doctor , he took on an assistant position at the Hygiene Institute of the University of Vienna in 1897, initially under Max von Gruber , then under Arthur Schattenfroh. Graßberger completed his habilitation in 1902 as a private lecturer in hygiene, in 1906 he was promoted to associate professor, and in 1917 he received the title of full professor . In 1924 Roland Graßberger was appointed full professor and head of the institute, and in 1936 he was retired.

Roland Graßberger, who was accepted as a real member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences , stood out with his work on anaerobic spore patterns and their ability to produce toxins, milk and drinking water hygiene, home, school and commercial hygiene, disinfection and pest control.

Roland Graßberger was married to the doctor's daughter Mathilde, née Rabl (1870–1938), with whom he had four children, including the renowned criminal lawyer Roland Graßberger junior . In 1908, Graßberger had a villa built in Vienna- Hernals by the architect Jože Plečnik , which is now a listed building. Graßberger died in Vienna in 1957 at the age of 89 and is buried in Bad Hall in Upper Austria.
