Roland Horvath

Roland Horvath (born June 28, 1945 in Vienna ) is an Austrian horn player .

Life

After graduating from the Theresian Academy in Vienna with distinction , Horvath studied mathematics and music education in Vienna. He passed the teaching examination in 1967/70 and received the title Magister rer. nat.

From the 1967/68 school year to 2009/2010 he taught mathematics and music education. 1970 to 1973 he was a university assistant for analytical music theory at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna .

From 1957 (?) To 1975 Horvath studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts with a focus on horn with Gottfried von Freiberg , Leopold Kainz and Josef Veleba . In 1966 he passed the final examination from Horn, and in 1975 the teaching qualification examination from Horn. From 1965 to 1966 he was active as a horn player in the Great Vienna Radio Orchestra, since 1966 at the Vienna State Opera and since 1981 a member of the Vienna Philharmonic .

Since 1981 he has been the president of the Wiener Waldhornverein , from 1985 to 1990 he was also archivist of the Vienna Philharmonic. Horvath has headed the Wiener Waldhornverein-Verlag since 1985. From 1987 to 1993 he was a member of the Advisory Council of the International Horn Society , and from 1991 to 1992 Vice President of the organization.

Since 1967, in addition to orchestral work in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, France, the Netherlands, England, Scotland, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Finland, USA, Mexico, Cuba, Japan and the Philippines, he has also played in numerous solo concerts.

Horvath was a lecturer and soloist at symposia in Klagenfurt 1982, London 1983, Vienna 1983, Baltimore / MD 1985, Innsbruck 1986, Valkeakoski / Finland 1987, Potsdam / NY 1988, Vienna 1988, Munich 1989, Vienna 1990, Charleston (Illinois) / IL 1990, Schlosshof / Lower Austria 1990, Denton / TX 1991, Baden / Lower Austria 1993, Pasadena / CA 1994, Havana / Cuba 1994, New York / NY 1994, Philadelphia / PA 1994, Washington / DC 1994, Amsterdam 1995, Cebu / Philippines 1995 , Dumaguete / Philippines 1995, Cagayan de Oro / Philippines 1995, Manila 1995, Baden / Lower Austria 1995.

Horvath is the author of numerous publications and has often played at world premieres of contemporary works for horn. He is a member of the Catholic student association K.Ö.HV Amelungia Vienna in the ÖCV .
