Roland Risse (painter)
Richard Raphael Roland Risse (born January 4, 1835 in Cologne , † 1887 in Heidelberg ) was a German history , genre and portrait painter from the Düsseldorf School .
Life
Risse was the son of the lithographer Eduard Risse. From 1853/54 he studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy , initially until 1858/59 with Karl Ferdinand Sohn , Heinrich Mücke , Friedrich Wilhelm von Schadow , Andreas Müller and Karl Müller . From 1859/60 to 1864/65 he belonged to the master class under the direction of Eduard Julius Friedrich Bendemann , who involved him in the execution of his murals in the Düsseldorf secondary school in the summer of 1862.
After his training he worked as a history, portrait and genre painter in Düsseldorf. In addition, he worked there as a city councilor. In 1879 he moved to Darmstadt . He went on study trips to Dresden , Munich , Paris and the Netherlands. Initially, his work was stylistically influenced by the fine painting tradition of the Schadow School. In his paintings, created after 1873, he focused on the painterly treatment of the object while taking back its material-plastic qualities.
